  <abstract>E.B. White was an essayist, poet, and humorist for adults.  Though he died in 1985, he is still recognized as one of the world's foremost prose writers.  During his long and successful writing career, White also authored three stories for middle graders, Stuart Little, Charlottes Web, and The Trumpet of the Swan.</abstract>
